Eraselets – Review and Giveaway (ends 2/28)

We have a new product to talk about today – they’re called Eraselets. I love that the company is from Middle Tennessee! They actually are made in the USA from a start-up family business. How cool is that? Now I’m sure you’re wondering what they are exactly – well they’re erasers that you wear on your wrists like bracelets.

We received the creature pack to review. When they arrived the kids were excited and wanted to try them on. I explained how you’re supposed to erase (with your thumb inside it so to apply the proper pressure) and let them wear them to school. When they came home I asked what they thought about them – here’s what they had to say.

Chee loved wearing them and showing them off. She said that her friends asked if they could have one, so I know that kindergarten kids liked them. She wasn’t quite able to make the eraser part work at school. We had to work on it and let me show her just how to apply pressure again and she’s still a little frustrated by it. I think maybe kindergarten may be a little young for it.

The boy loved them! He said that he was able to erase just fine and that they worked well. His friends in second grade wanted to know more about them too. He couldn’t quit telling me how wonderful they were. I asked why he didn’t wear his the next day and he said that he would get in trouble for playing with them – he has some attention issues and I’m proud of him for recognizing them. He uses it at home when doing homework though and still thinks they’re neat.

I think kids 7 and up would do well with them, they just have to learn how to make them work.

I did a test with them and you can see that they do work. I compared my pencil eraser with the bracelet. I realize that I should have left a mark to show the before I erased. I figure they have to work or what’s the point, right? They are not recommended for laser copy paper, glossy paper, or paper with a film on it.

A tiny bit more about the company just because: they give away 10% of their net profits to http://www.eraseworldhunger.com. The family that created them did so because their kids kept losing their erasers, I can relate. The dad said that he should just tape an eraser to a bracelet and then was like woah that’s not a bad idea. Ta-da. I love how ideas happen. They do customized ones as well – so you can get your child’s name, allergy info, school name, etc.

Do you want to try them out? Win a pack for yourself and see what you think.

  • We’re giving away 1 package of Eraselets.
  • Winners of each giveaway will be entered in a second giveaway and have a chance to win enough Eraselets for their childs entire classroom!
  • If someone purchases Eraselets while this campain is running they will have the oportunity to win 250 custom eraselets if you use the promo code SMILE when making your purchase.

If you want to buy them: Eraselets are available individually or in packs of 6. Dollar General Market Stores offers Eraselet® as a $1 item! Scripture Eraselets are available at all Lifeway Christian Stores in packs of 6! I like this, it’s a good way for your kids to work on a memory verse. We’re going forward with the Monster High and Kirby idea – check out these awesome cupcake picks!

While I loved a suggestion I got about a volcano and an exploding water cake – I think my kids are dead set on Monster High and Kirby.

So I wandered over to ebay (such a far walk, ya know?) and found exactly what the doctor ordered. Cupcake picks!!! This is great because when it comes to making cupcakes for the class I won’t have to draw something special on each cupcake. That’s a great day for me when I don’t spend 4+ hours decorating 20 cupcakes.

Monster High Picks

I ordered them from Gretchen’s Shop on ebay. I found the cutest Monster High stuff and about 1 Kirby thing. (Seriously Nintendo – you guys are missing out on a huge market. Last year I had to do Mario and this year Kirby. Take note, start offering party supplies! Even on ebay!) What’s a mom to do when you find thousands of designs for one kid and nothing for the other?

I emailed Gretchen’s Shop and asked if they could do Kirby picks too. She asked which characters and I told her how I’d like them to not look too babyish or girly. She came through on both accounts. My order was for the Monster High picks, but I had a note in there to do 3 sets of Monster High and 3 sets of Kirby.

Kirby Picks

It took a few days to get the custom part ready, but I was blown away by what I received. Check it out – these are the cupcake picks! The kids are super jazzed about these and don’t want their friends to keep them or throw them away. I showed them that they can toss the stick and keep the top part. I’m sure my house will be overrun with these soon.

Gretchen made Kirby look like he’s in an action game and not some weird cloud-like floaty guy. My husband laughed and agreed that’s as manly as Kirby could look. Gretchen even included Spectra – another request as Chee loves the purple MH doll. Each set has a pick that says “Happy 6th / 8th birthday” to them and another has their name on it. Seriously, I just was wanting to give her shop a shout-out.

There’s no disclaimer, I bought and paid for these, but I wanted to show them off as I know finding Kirby stuff is crazy difficult and I was proud on how she came through for me! Birthdays are saved this year!!

I’ll post photos when I get things done, gotta’ do Chee’s tonight as tomorrow’s her birthday. My baby’s 6 years old tomorrow. Wow.

I won a $25 Starbucks Gift Card for $.59 at You Never Lose – Review and Giveaway (ends 2/21)

Seriously, this site is addicting. There I said it, it’s a good disclaimer but one that I think some people may need to hear before I get started. If you have a gambling problem this may not be the site for you. For everyone else – check this out!!

There’s a new site in town called YouNeverLose.com and they auction off gift cards to retailers like Amazon, Apple and Wal-Mart at serious discounts – like 90% off retail.

The clear benefit of YouNeverLose.com in contrast to other auction sites (like penny auctions and others) is that instead of buying bids, you buy “lower-level” gift cards (they call them Reward Cards) to retailers like Gap, Staples, Payless and more, and for each Reward Card you buy, you get free points to play in the auctions for the “Dream Cards” to Amazon, Wal-Mart and more.

YouNeverLose.com offers frugal shoppers a way to score some serious discounts without the risk of losing, since for each dollar you spend, you get cash back in Reward Cards sent with free shipping.

I know what you’re thinking – do people win?

Well, look right here. I won this $25 Starbucks Gift Card for $.59 with 9 bids. The actual bidding seems to take place the last minute of the auction, and whenever someone places a bid it makes the time jump back up to 20 seconds to go. It’s good to know this because as much as you want to snipe it from someone — they will get the chance to do it right back to you.

I’ve always been skeptical of penny auction sites. I mean, it sounds too good to be true, but if you think about it each bid is for .01, but it also costs $1. Well, most places it does – here it’s just a reward point. You already have your money back in the form of the gift card you just bought. So anything you win on the penny auction side is a bonus.

Now if you win a penny auction you will have to pay the agreed to price you won it for and then $5 to ship. The ones you buy shipping is free, but the ones you win you have to pay to ship.

Want to try them out?? Go register here and then you can use the code LAUNCH10 which gives you a 10 point bonus when registering and buying your first gift card. You can pay by paypal or credit card.

Ones you can buy to earn points include $25, $50, or $100 to many of these stores:
Sears, Gap, Brooks Brothers, 1-800 flowers, Banana Republic, Bath & Body Works, Fannie May, Kmart, L.L. Bean, Lands’ End, Mrs. Fields, Nike Store, Old Navy, Restaurant.com, AMC Theatres, American Airlines, and Costco.

Want to try the site out for free???
We’re giving away a $25 AMC gift card plus the corresponding 25 points to use on the site.

Review for Mr. Chewy’s online pet store (Cassie approves!)

Did you know that you can order huge bags of dog food online? My poor FedEx guy may not know what was in that 34 pound box, but he sure felt it. You can give your FedEx guy a workout too if you order from Mr. Chewy! They have free shipping if you spend $49 and they carry all kinds of great brands! Here, the boy was helping me unbox the new bag of food.

Cassie was happy to receive some treats in the mail too. It’s not often that my dog gets mail, but the other day I received two boxes for her. One was the aforementioned dog food bag, but the other was the rest of my order – a double meat rawhide bone, a wishbone treat, and a flossie treat.

Mr. Chewy has 70+ brands and I have heard that they add new in-demand items regularly. Cassie is 11 years old and hasn’t really wanted to chew on stuff lately. I’m guessing her teeth are sensitive, but she went to work on the flossie treat. You can see here how she loved it!

They have subscription based ordering if you want to set it up to auto-ship to you. The cool thing is if you decide that you want to get a bag of food monthly, you can set it up and forget about it. Shipping is prompt and they ship to the USA, excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

They have a referral program too. If you enter my Refer-a-Friend code during checkout, you’ll save an extra 10% off your first MrChewy.com order. Plus, MrChewy.com will donate $10 split between Best Friends Animal Society, Bideawee, and North Shore Animal League! Pretty cool!

Here’s my code: RIKI7442
Here’s their site: http://www.mrchewy.com/

Some of the brands they carry: Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo, Orijen, Taste of the Wile, Dogswell, Ziwipeak, Stella & Chewy, and Natural Balance .

Obviously they have Beneful, as that’s what we get at our house. I normally go buy the food at Sam’s Club, but the prices were competitive and it was so nice to order online! My son had fun with the box and has asked when the next bag of dog food would arrive. When I asked why he said because the box was fun to play with and he hopes to get dog-treats each month. We shall see. I do know that I am a fan of Mr. Chewy now and hope to order more from them in the future. I found that they also have Frontline at competitive prices. They have cat-food as well, but since I don’t have a cat, I really didn’t look into that area on their site.

You can follow Mr. Chewy’s escapades on Facebook or on twitter.Cassie approves and will be working on this rawhide bone until she’s done! Well, with naps mixed in.

Review of “The Joy of Melt and Pour Soap Crafting” by Lisa Maliga

The other day I received a copy of an e-book called “The Joy of Melt and Pour Soap Crafting” which is about making homemade soap. I must admit I haven’t ever thought much about soap crafting, but I was excited to read more about it. I’m sure my kids will love doing this with me in maybe a snow day coming soon. Well, if we have anymore this year! I guess I need to get to the store and buy the supplies for when the time comes.
Lisa Maliga, the author of the book, has been crafting soaps for years! She runs the website Everythingsheacreates.com. The site shows off some of her creations which are pretty neat.

A little about the e-book:
• It tells how to make hand crafted soap in less than 1 hour!
• It tells the secrets of melt and pour soap crafting
• Step-by-step instructions
• Easy projects for kids of all ages
• List of reputable soap suppliers
• Creative labeling & packaging deals with photos
• Color photos of each recipe
• And best of all this takes NO experience at all, which is exactly how much experience as I had.

I realize now that some of the best molds are the silicone molds. I bought some silicone molds this year to make homemade crayons with. I just have to clean up all of the crayon out of the mold before I start my soap making. Michael’s craft store, Walmart, Amazon, and many other places carry the silicone molds so that’s good news – the molds are easy to find!

I like that there’s a chapter near the end about what mistakes not to make. These are great hints and really hopefully will keep anyone from making some annoying mistakes they may otherwise had honestly happened into (which would cost $ and time as many would make the soap unusable). I really love these hints and will be sure to re-read these before starting my first bar of soap.

The end also has some websites listed where you can buy some oils, some soap bases, and it looks like a lot of good information to get someone started. These resources alone are worth the cost of the e-book as it will save a lot of time in getting started.
The e-book is available on Amazon Kindle and on B&N Nook. There’s a kindle app for ipad and iphone in case you don’t have a kindle but want to read this book.

If you are crafty and are looking for something new to try, I would recommend this e-book. The Joy of Melt and Pour Soap Crafting is available for $4.99 from Amazon.

Diamond Candle – Review and Giveaway! (ends Jan. 27)

I received a Diamond Candle to review on our site. When it arrived the first thing I noticed just how nicely it was wrapped. It was in a nice cardboard box, with a bubble wrap that’s sticky on the candle side. Also there were those bags of air in it too, I felt that it was packed with care and that’s a good thing since it’s glass.

I got the scent Sweety Pea which is nice because it is a little of a lavendar scent. It smells like a spring flower and it’s purple (my favorite color).

I couldn’t wait to burn it, so I took a few photos of it and then took it to the kitchen to get it started.

Look, that is where the ring is! Oh in case you aren’t familiar with Diamond Candles – they get their name because they have a ring in them. It could be worth $10, $100, $1,000 or even $5,000. My mom’s best friend said it was like legal gambling. I think it reminds me of the anticipation of opening a cereal box with a prize as a kid, or a cracker jack box. But with an actual ring that minimally is going to be a piece of costume jewelry that won’t turn your finger green, so that’s good!

So after about an hour I went to check on it. It was burning evenly. The house was starting to have a light flowery scent. It’s not very overpowering. I hear that soy candles in general aren’t as strong. Maybe that’s just the gossip, but I did smell it, just not all over the house. More like in the kitchen area. I guess that it would make a great candle for the bathroom or something, since the room is smaller. Then again my hubby complains if there’s candles burning that he doesn’t like the smell of when he comes home from work and I didn’t hear any complaints about this one. I think Gold Canyons are the strongest scents with Yankee following behind them, this is less than those but more than a glade or something you’d get like that.

Now the moment of truth. I made a video of the ring’s unveiling. Please pay no mind to the editing, Cheech was trying to blow it out and I had to edit the video so I wasn’t telling her to “Stop it!” and the boy was so excited because he’s a rock collector and the thought of a diamond made him super ready to see what was in the gold pouch.

Here is an up close and personal look at the ring that I received from the candle. It’s gold with diamonds. Ok it’s likely gold plated with CZ’s, but until I go to a jewelry store for an appraisal I think I’ll keep it out of Cheech’s jewelry box. I couldn’t make out any words in it, I’ve heard to look for China, Taiwan, 14K, 24K, and stuff like that, but I couldn’t read anything. It may say Taiwan, but using the boy’s magnifying glass I didn’t have any better luck in reading it.

I seriously don’t know how to pose with a ring. I guess it’s been too long since I got my engagement ring and I was all, look at this ring. So I guess here’s my attempt at showing it off while looking like I’m trying to stop myself from slapping someone? Whatever, you get the idea.

Go check out Diamond Candles facebook page and like them. People post their ring photos on the wall. Also there’s a page call Diamond Candle Ring Swap where people try to swap, sell, or also show off their rings. If you’re looking for any coupon codes, the Ring Swap facebook page is where you want to look. Be sure to look where “others” post, not just admin.

If you want to buy one, go to their homepage http://www.diamondcandles.com/ and click shop! They’re $24.95,with $5 shipping, but like I said check the Ring Swap page to see if there’s any discounts.

Want to win one of your own????? You know you do! Well, a group of bloggers have teamed up with Diamond candles to give 30 away. So you have a good chance to win one if you click on the word “more” below and use the Rafflecopter form to enter.

The rafflecopter form closes on the 27th of January, so be sure to enter before the deadline – you will not want to miss your chance to win your own Diamond Candle! Who knows, maybe you’ll get a high value ring out of it. If you do please let me know – good luck!
